A statement from Angus McNaughton, CEO and Managing Director of Vicinity Centres

'We wanted to provide you with an update about DFO Essendon following yesterday's devastating events. Let me say once again that this is a tragic time for our community. On behalf of everyone at Vicinity Centres, our thoughts and deepest sympathies remain with those who have lost their lives and with their families.

'DFO Essendon will remain closed until further notice. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau and other authorities continue their investigations on site. We are offering all assistance needed to undertake their important work.

'Vicinity Centres is consulting with authorities, engineers and other experts to determine the most appropriate time to reopen the centre.

'Our focus continues to be the wellbeing of the community, our people and our retailers, and we continue to provide ongoing support for those team members who need it.

'We will provide updates to our customers and retailers as information becomes available and encourage the local community to visit the DFO website (www.dfo.com.au/Essendon) for the latest updates.'
