- KRX tested Violin's All-Flash Array and the product recorded excellent scores in failure testing with redundant component design compared to competing products - KRX valued Violin's track record of stable operations utilizing flash architecture and specialized technology proven in global financial markets

Violin Memory (http://www.violin-memory.com), a leader of the NAND flash memory-based all-flash storage market, announced that the Korea Exchange (Chairman/CEO Kyungsoo Choi) has introduced and is operating the fast and reliable Violin 6616 All Flash Array storage to its trading system.

Violin Memory supplied its 6616 All Flash Array to the next-generation trading system 'EXTURE+' established by the Korea Exchange in 2014, and has since been supporting high-performance continuous operation for the past two years. EXTURE+ is a next-generation system established to improve the performance of the market trading system composed of the previous UNIX server and hard disk drive storage. The Korea Exchange has built an open system with an x86-based high-performance server and Violin all-flash storage after a lengthy period of testing.

While carrying out the next-generation project, the Korea Exchange has reviewed multiple products including those supplied by various specialized storage companies as well as integrated equipment and appliances. However, due to the nature of the market trading system, they needed to fulfill the requirements of both stability and performance to the utmost level, and thus faced difficulties in finding the right product that met such criteria.

Violin Memory's 6616 All Flash Array, perfectly supports FC and InfiniBand, which is an interface between storage and server. All components are designed in a dualization format, enabling the product to obtain the best results in failure testing, which was ultimately selected by the Korea Exchange.

The previous system had issues in which storage performance affected the entire system performance, but after implementing Violin's All Flash Array storage, the Korea Exchange was able to establish a rapid performance and stable operating environment even in a combined workload environment, and is thus stably operating the system ever since its implementation.

In addition, Violin Memory is providing an optimum operating environment by offering a high level of flash architecture that has been proven in the global financial market, as well as a specialized technical support system that is customized to the Korean market.

'Within financial services where reliability is crucial, a robust architecture and an understanding of the industry helps ensure a successful implementation,' said Youngsoo Lee, Violin Memory's Country Manager of Korea. 'Various application cases were presented as more flash storage offerings have been introduced to the Korean financial market, but this case study involving the Korea Exchange is deemed to be quite innovative since the case study describes the ability to maintain continuous high-performance operation by implementing all flash storage technology for key tasks instead of a few limited tasks.'

Violin Memory has supplied more than 1.4PB (1400TB) of all-flash storage to Korea including the Korea Exchange.
