Virgin Australia today opened its lounge at Gold Coast
airport, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to the Gold
Coast hub and enhancing travel to this important
destination for both leisure and corporate guests.
Located at the southern end of the Gold Coast domestic
terminal, the Virgin Australia lounge features an entry
level reception area with a mezzanine level revealing
sweeping views of the tarmac and Gold Coast hinterland.
The space stretches over 680m2, and has been designed to
encapsulate Virgin Australia's contemporary look and feel,
offering distinct areas to relax, refuel and work,
including business facilities, entertainment options and a
Luke Mangan designed buffet.
Designed by renowned architect Tim Greer from Tonkin
Zulaikha Greer, the new Gold Coast Lounge is modelled on
the refurbished Melbourne and Brisbane Lounges and
continues the premium Virgin Australia lounge experience.
Virgin Australia General Manager, Product, Alison Chalmer
said the Gold Coast was a renowned leisure destination and
an increasingly important market for corporate travellers
and the lounge has been designed to appeal to both needs.
"We are delighted to open our first ever lounge at Gold
Coast Airport, which will enable us to provide a first-rate
airport experience for business and leisure Guests."
Ms. Chalmer said the addition of the new lounge was a
natural step forward in the airline's commitment to the
Gold Coast and south-east Queensland region.
"Virgin Australia has been operating flights to the Gold
Coast for more than 10 years, and is the only airline to
offer Business Class to the Gold Coast with more than 150
domestic and international return flights to the region
each week.
The new lounge will be a welcome addition and enhancement
to the travel experience for our frequent flyer and
business Guests," Ms. Chalmer said.
The Hon Jann Stuckey MP, Minister for Tourism, Major
Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games believes
Virgin Australia's new lounge will enhance the travel
experience of tourists to the Gold Coast.
"I congratulate Virgin Australia on its commitment to the
Gold Coast, with the addition of the new Lounge at our
airport.
"This Lounge will add to the overall travel experience and
help cement our image as a premier tourist destination.
"Tourism is one of the Newman Government's four economic
pillars, and we are working hard every day to grow the
industry."
