Brazilian telecom operator GVT is investing 100 million Brazilian reais ($50 million) to roll out services in two new states in the northeast of the country.
GVT, a unit of France's Vivendi SA (VIV.FR, VIVEF, VIVHY), will begin providing services in the cities of Maceio, in Alagoas state, and Aracaju in Sergipe state, which together have 1.6 million inhabitants, GVT said in a statement.
The company will offer its triple-play package of telephone, television and internet access, the company said.
GVT's main hub for services was the south and southeast of the country, but it is expanding in the northeast and now operates in 19 cities in six states of the northeast.
The company has said it plans to invest at least BRL10 billion over the next five years.
