DUBLIN--Ireland will receive a total of more than 854.6 million euros ($1.1 billion) over the next 18 years after it sold so-called spectrum rights to four telecommunications firms to provide fourth generation mobile phone services.

Government agency the Commission for Communications Regulation, or ComReg, said Thursday an auction of spectrum rights will raise EUR481.7 million in upfront fees and a further EUR372.9 million in "usage fees" through 2030.

Vodafone Ireland, Telefonica Ireland, Eircom unit Meteor Mobile and Hutchison Three 3G Ireland won the licenses, ComReg said.
