SAIC Motor Sells 367,991 Vehicles In May, Up 20.9%

SHANGHAI--Sales at SAIC Motor Corp. (600104.SH) and its joint ventures rose 20.9% in May from a year earlier to 367,991 vehicles, boosted by strong sales of microvans, the company said Friday.

In the January-May period, sales at SAIC Motor and its joint ventures totaled 1.88 million vehicles, up 11.3% from the same period a year earlier, SAIC Motor said in a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

SAIC-GM-Wuling, the company's microvan joint venture with General Motors Co. (GM) and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co., boosted SAIC's overall figures, with sales rising 35.4% to 128,680 vehicles, the statement said.

Sales at Shanghai Volkswagen, SAIC Motors' joint venture with Volkswagen AG (>> Volkswagen AG), rose 9% in May to 100,262 cars, the statement said.
