Wal-mart de Mexico S A B de C V : Wal-Mart De Mexico January Sales Rise 13.1% From Year Ago

Retailer Wal-Mart de Mexico SAB (WMMVY, WALMEX.MX) said Wednesday that its sales rose 13.1% in January from a year ago to 34.8 billion pesos ($2.74 billion), with total sales and comparable sales gains in both Mexico and Central America.
Walmex, as the unit of Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (>> Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.) is called, said Mexican sales rose 12.4% to MXN30.15 billion. On a comparable basis, counting only stores that have been in operation for at least a year, sales in the country were 4.7% higher than in January 2011 as 3.5% more customers spent on average 1.2% more per visit.
Central American sales rose 17.9% in Mexican peso terms to MXN4.65 billion. On a constant currency basis, sales in the region rose 6.6% from a year earlier, and same-store sales edged up 0.1%.
At the end of January, Walmex had 2,098 stores and restaurants in Mexico, including 11 that opened last month, and 621 stores in Central America.
Walmex V shares traded on the Mexican stock exchange closed up 0.1% Wednesday at MXN40.04.
