Jan. 13--COLLEGE TOWNSHIP -- Eight people were transported to a hospital -- four via ambulance, four in personal vehicles -- after a three-vehicle crash Saturday morning at an intersection on the 300 block of Benner Pike, near Walmart.
State College police Sgt. Kelly Aston said, that to the best of her knowledge, everyone involved in the collision was speaking and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
"One was heading in the opposite direction, in the incorrect lane," she said. "Two of the vehicles were headed eastbound, and there was a vehicle coming at them westbound in the eastbound lanes."
An SUV, which was traveling in the incorrect lane, collided head-on with a van. Aston said the third vehicle, a pickup truck, was clipped. All three vehicles had to be towed from the intersection.
The collision occurred at 11:06 a.m. and police were not allowing vehicles to travel between the Shiloh Road-Benner Pike intersection and the 300 block of Benner Pike intersection for almost an hour.
Aston said there was a preliminary investigation into why the SUV was traveling in the incorrect lane, and she was unaware of the speed at which all three vehicles were traveling at the time of impact. She described the damage to the SUV and van as "severe."
