Sam’s Club will open its newest location at 1705 S. Broadway Ave. in Moore this Thursday, May 7 following an 8 a.m. grand opening ceremony. The membership warehouse club has brought 190 jobs to the community and will give residents and small business owners the opportunity to access incredible deals and amazing finds on quality merchandise, including products made in Oklahoma.

The grand opening celebration will focus on the company’s commitment to the local community. Sam’s Club associates selected several Moore-area schools and non-profit organizations to receive $16,000 in community giving grants. Grant award winners include:

  • Houchin Elementary School
  • Kelley Elementary School
  • Southgate Elementary School
  • Central Junior High
  • Highland West Junior High
  • Highland East Junior High
  • Moore High School
  • Westmoore High School
  • Southmoore High School
  • Ally’s House
  • Cleveland County Christmas Store

“We’re so happy to be part of the community and look forward to giving back whenever we can,” said Club Manager Farrokh Moinian. “I’m extremely proud of our associates who’ve already volunteered 500 hours in the Moore community before we’ve even opened our doors to the public.”

Some of those hours were spent volunteering in the aftermath of the March 25 tornado. Associates helped re-locate Southgate Elementary School after the building was damaged during the storm. Associates also handed out 500 brown bag lunches in the community to disaster survivors and relief workers. In the last fiscal year, Sam’s Club and parent company Walmart gave more than $36 million and nearly 20 million pounds of food to non-profits in the state of Oklahoma.

Grand opening ceremony features local officials, special events

Oklahoma Senator Anthony Sykes, Moore Mayor Glen Lewis, City Manager Steve Eddy and members of the Moore Chamber of Commerce will be among those in attendance at Thursday’s grand opening ceremony. The American Legion will present colors and Courtney Miles, daughter of Sam’s Club associate Sherry Miles, will perform the national anthem. There will also be a performance by the Moore High School Band.

To add to the excitement of the grand opening, the club will host celebrity appearances and autograph signings, including:

  • Tony Casillas, former OU and Dallas Cowboys Defensive Lineman, May 7 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Steve Owens, former OU Running Back and 1969 Heisman Trophy winner, May 8 from 1 - 3 p.m.
