Walgreens, together with its subsidiaries, operates a network of drugstores in the United States. On August 4, 2014, the Company announced the replacement of its chief financial officer, effective immediately. Two days later, on August 6, 2014, Walgreens announced that it was lowering the Company’s fiscal year 2016 EBIT forecast to $7.2 billion – below the range the Company had previously stated. Specifically, the new forecast was $1.8 billion below the low-end of the previously forecast range and $2.3 billion below the high-end of that range. Following this news, Walgreens shares declined $9.77 per share, or more than 21%, to close at $58.34 per share on August 6, 2014, on unusually heavy volume.
