Webster Bank Receives Award for Excellence from the United Way

WATERBURY, Conn., April 18, 2014 - Webster Bank received the "Award for Excellence" from the United Way of West Central Connecticut for creating lasting changes to improve people's lives in our communities. The honor was part of the 12th Annual Community Builders' Reception held on April 10 at The DoubleTree by Hilton in
Bristol, Conn.
Rick O'Brien, regional president at Webster accepted the award on behalf of Webster's 3,000 bankers who during
the 2013 campaign, raised $1.3 million, which set a new employee campaign record.
"The United Way is part of us - a community-minded, values-driven organization. We believe in providing local services at the local level, and we know that the United Way is the most efficient and effective way to support the vital safety net of human services for people who need a hand up," said O'Brien. "We've been able to continuously grow our campaign because its goals are part of our DNA, part of a legacy of caring handed down by our Chairman and CEO Jim Smith's father. We've been involved in United Way campaigns since the beginning," he added.
"We are so pleased to have given Webster Bank this year's Award for Excellence. Their employees are so involved with many aspects of our organization - sitting on our Board of Directors, getting involved with many of our committees and sending over 30 employees to our Day of Caring each year. Webster Bank is a true example of an organization that Lives United," said Colleen Bolingbroke, Director of Marketing & Community Relations, United Way of West Central Connecticut.
