The Sarasin-RSBD Starflow V for steam boiler applications

  • Extensive research & development enables extension of Sarasin-RSDB™ Starflow™ valves for steam boiler applications
  • Composite design provides anti-seizing properties, faster lifting and blowdown performance, with enhanced access for in-situ servicing and testing
  • Weir Flow Control France offers customers sustainable lead-times throughout all pressure relief contingencies on heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs)

Vendin-le-Vieil, France - Weir Flow Control France, a subsidiary of global engineering firm Weir Group, today announced an enhancement to their Sarasin-RSBD™ range of Safety Valves, with the addition of the Starflow™ V design for steam boiler applications.

The innovative portfolio enhancement allows customers increased access to Sarasin-RSBD's proven design for Safety Valves which operate in high, intermediate, and low pressure duties.

The Starflow™ V compliments the existing Starflow™ P and Starsteam™ options. The additional choice allows boiler manufacturers and plant operators to deal with a single supplier for multiple sizes and pressure conditions ranging from 1' to 8' (1 bar to 370 bar). Furthermore it now allows Weir to offer customers fully inclusive product availability for boiler applications up to supercritical operational levels.

Weir's world class engineering processes and their continual investment in research and development has resulted in a high integrity solution with a competitive price and lead time.

Within a period of ten months, an extension to the existing range of ASME I accredited 'V' code stamped Safety Valves has been developed offering high quality operational and maintenance properties and reducing the overall cost of customer ownership. The Starflow™ V joins a proven portfolio of valves which are recognised for performance, technology and competitive value. Configurations are available to meet specific customer requirements such as full and restricted lift designs. The valves offer tight control of steam loss, seat protection, faster lifting and blowdown, which are prime considerations for customers when considering the design characteristics.

Andrew Clarke, Product Marketing Manager for Pressure Relief Valves, commented: 'Quality assurance and lifetime maintenance costs are vital issues for the power generation customers. Safety Valves are crucial to optimal operation and performance of plants, so we have invested in the Sarasin-RSBD ASME 1 range for customers who are focused on that essential performance, longevity, and low operational costs without compromising on engineering standards. The result is a safe and versatile valve portfolio which makes life easier for customers.'

Product overview summary:

Composite design

▪ ASME B&PV Code Section I and VIII certified valves (full lift and restricted lift)

▪ 'Anti-seizing' capability to prevent galling or sticking of internal components in the event of inconsistent operation or 'chattering'.

▪ Spring loaded safety valves and pilot operated pressure relief valves with fully metallic seat surfaces.

▪ Exposed spring for effective venting of steam

High performance

▪ Effective flow coefficient granted by National Board (USA) in accordance with the ASME B&PV Code.

▪ High pressure ratings to attain maximum set pressures.

▪ Specially designed and contoured disc to optimise steam flow & seat tightness.

▪ Effectively designed body chamber to optimise blowdown reaction time.

▪ 'Anti-seizing' capability to ensure accurate & repeatable opening pressures.

Control of the cost of product ownership

▪ Availability of large orifice sizes can minimise the quantity of selected valves and thus reduce the cost of acquisition and maintenance.

▪ Anti-seizing' capability will assist to control the cost of operation, maintenance & spare parts.
