Weir : opens new safety relief valve facility in…

Weir's Safety Relief Valve customers will benefit from our new facility in Malaysia, opened by Weir's Flow Control division, leading valve and pump solutions provider to the world's power and process industries.

The new facility will increase the global reach and competitiveness of Weir Flow Control by establishing a manufacturing and assembly plant close to Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur.

Speaking at a recent customer event to celebrate the opening of the new plant, Weir Flow Control Divisional Managing Director John Heasley said: 'This operation will provide Weir with the capability to serve customers who need highly engineered and very competitive solutions in whichever region they may be'.

'Whilst its location, in the heart of South East Asia, means we will be closer to many of our customers in that territory, the facility will also play an important role in our global supply chain. Safety Relief Valve customers in North America, Europe and the Middle East will therefore also benefit from reduced delivery times and competitive costs.'

Building on the established success of its dedicated Malaysian foundry, Weir will expand its manufacturing footprint to offer fully assembled valves from its Starflow and S9 product ranges, which are widely used throughout global oil and gas, power and chemical markets and are compliant with ISO, ASME and API standards. Available in multiple grades of material, the Malaysian operation has already successfully supplied several large and strategic projects, especially in severe, critical and super-critical applications.

The new manufacturing plant will provide in excess of 3,500 valves within its first year of operation, and a capacity of 10,000 valves per year is expected to be reached within the next 2 to 3 years.
