The National Business Group on Health, a non-profit association of large U.S. employers, today honored WellPoint, Inc. for its ongoing commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy work environment and encouraging its associates and their families to maintain healthy lifestyles.

WellPoint was among 63 U.S. employers that received the 2014 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles® award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the National Business Group on Health’s Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being. WellPoint received a Platinum Award for its flexible employee wellness incentive program. This marks the seventh consecutive year WellPoint has received an award.

WellPoint offers a wellness program that rewards healthy outcomes with credits toward the cost of medical coverage. It also promotes health improvement opportunities such as more exercise, less stress, better nutrition and smoking cessation. The wellness programs are a key component of the employee benefits package. Where available, on-site fitness facilities and on-site cafeterias with subsidized healthy options help associates make better choices while at work.

“WellPoint is in the business of promoting healthy behaviors and our associates are leading by example,” said Jose Tomas, executive vice president and chief human resources officer at WellPoint. “We know that taking care of one’s health can be a challenge, that’s why we offer creative approaches to wellness and reward the success of our associates and their family members. We are seeing results - lower cholesterol levels, lower BMIs and associates making healthier choices every day. It is encouraging to know that the success of our program is reinforced by this National Business Group on Health honor.”

“We are very pleased to honor WellPoint for its dedication to providing programs that encourage wellness and healthy lifestyles for their employees and families,” said Brian Marcotte, president and CEO of the National Business Group on Health. “WellPoint is among an elite group of organizations that are leading the way to promote healthy workplaces and lifestyles. WellPoint and its management team should be proud of their efforts and we congratulate them on receiving this award.”
