Saint-Gobain opens its new Research Centre in India

Saint-Gobain opens its new Research Centre in India February 01 2016

On January 29, Saint-Gobain opened its new cross-functional Research Centre, Saint- Gobain Research India (SGRI), in Chennai, in the State of Tamil Nadu (India).

Spread over 11,000m2 and representing a €26million investment, this new R&D centre will be focused on finding innovative and sustainable solutions for a variety of businesses (abrasives, glass, gypsum, ceramics and plastics). It will especially work on developing multi- comfort skills for buildings in hot and humid climates. One special feature of the centre is its location on the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, one of the world's leading universities.

The opening of this site is fully in line with Saint-Gobain's strategic focus on sustainable habitat. It will support businesses already located in India to accelerate Saint-Gobain's growth in the region. SGRI is committed to finding innovative solutions to the challenges of energy efficiency, environmental protection and enhanced comfort for daily living. By developing transversal competencies, in close cooperation with the Group's other large Research Centres, and by establishing partnerships with the Indian academic world, SGRI will also pave the way for new Saint-Gobain developments in the country.
