Rain didn't dampen the festivities July 8 when Whole Foods Market in Colleyville celebrated its one-year anniversary.

"Our store is amazing. It's awesome," store manager William Crawford said of the Austin-based chain that specializes in natural and organic foods.

Besides fresh and organic produce and meats, Whole Foods in Colleyville offers wood-fired pizzas, food bars, a wide variety of cheeses, bins of nuts and grains and ample vitamins and other health-related products.

Marty Wieder, Colleyville's economic development director, who was at the celebration that featured cake and party hats, said people who live and shop in the area are the big winners of Whole Foods' local presence because it means "more options for our residents and neighbors."

The Wednesday event was coupled with a two-hour, city-promoted cash mob. Cash mobs are random, spur-of-the-moment events where people can come together to support local businesses. The member business hosting the cash mob offers special discounts and fun activities.

Among the participants was Justin Paul Vigiletti. The 74-year-old retiree said he attends cash mobs regularly because he believes in "supporting the city."
