WHOLE FOODS MARKET, INC. New store on Post Oak opens Nov. 6
HOUSTON (Oct. 15, 2014) - The long-awaited arrival of Houston's ninth Whole Foods Market store on Post Oak is almost here. On Thursday, Nov. 6, the 55,000-square-foot store will open its doors.
In addition to a full range of high-quality natural and organic products, the store will offer more than 500 local-, and more than 300 organic- items, an in-store brewery, and an assortment of exclusive products.
Store-opening celebrations will kick off with a traditional bread-breaking ceremony (Whole Foods Market's version of ribbon cutting) at 7:30 a.m., followed by the grand opening at 8 a.m. The first 500 shoppers will receive a Whole Foods Market reusable shopping bag. Guests may also enjoy tastings, special sales, music and activities for all ages.
As a part of Whole Foods Market's commitment to the community, the store will host a series of 1 percent community giving days during opening week. Guests can support a different Houston nonprofit each day simply by shopping. The following nonprofit organizations will receive 1 percent of sales on the below dates, and will join the store in opening events:

Friday, Nov. 7 - Houston Police Foundation
Saturday, Nov. 8 - Buffalo Bayou Partnership
Sunday, Nov. 9 - Recipe for Success

On Nov. 4, Whole Foods Market will host a preview party for the Post Oak store. The event will feature sips and samples of local and exclusive products to the store, and proceeds will benefit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Limited tickets are available for a $15 donation and can be purchased in advance at http://wfmpostoak.eventbrite.com.
In keeping with Whole Foods Market tradition, the store will include several innovative features including some firsts for Whole Foods Markets in Houston such as:
• Whole Foods Market Brewing Company, the grocery industry's first craft brewery inside a grocery store, with 20 beers on tap
• In-store delivery tricycle, replete with two slim kegs that will transport beer to guests throughout the store
• Living wall of floral/plant offerings
• Juice bar with in-store-made, cold-pressed options and a new menu to offer cold-pressed, full-service juices and smoothies
• Cozy, reimagined clothing and accessory space known as The Greenhouse, Taqueria station, Mediterranean style grill, BBQ bar and more
• Three different seating areas throughout the store, including a second-floor mezzanine with a gas fireplace and lounge seating
• Art-O-Mat onsite: a handcrafted machine that will feature art for sale from local artists
Whole Foods Market Brewing Company, the company's first-ever in-store brewery, includes windows overlooking the tanks, 20 taps and seating for 40, with additional seating on the second floor mezzanine. Guests will be able to enjoy tasty food pairings and will be able to chat with head brewer Dave Ohmer through classes, tours, and events.
The store's traditional grocery departments are also taking it to the next level. The bakery will feature hearth bread made from spent grains and beer from the brewery and malt-extract-themed desserts. In collaboration with the new Mediterranean eatery, the bakery will feature Mediterranean-themed desserts, including halva, kataifi, baklava, bird's nest, and kunafa. Seafood will roll out new features, including dim sum sold as individual bites or in a set of six, and in-store smoked seafood plates for sale at the bar.
The store will feature multiple eating venues, including a Taqueria, which will offer traditional taco and burrito options with easy ordering at a touch-screen kiosk and a Mediterranean grill, featuring lamb, pork, beef, chicken and vegetables marinated and cooked on a wood grill, and wrapped in warm flatbread with herb and lettuce salad, feta and olives.
The sandwich bar, pizza station, and two large food bars will make mealtime decisions quick and convenient for guests.
The new store will offer a boutique-style clothing and accessory space known as The Greenhouse. This space will showcase unique, sustainable, and eco-friendly lifestyle items.
The store was constructed to be environmentally friendly, with energy-saving features such as large windows to save on store lighting, reclaimed brick and oak throughout the store, and a reclaimed corrugated tin roof over the taco and sandwich bar.
