Wincanton plc ("Wincanton" or "the Group"), a leading provider of supply chain solutions in the UK and Ireland has been awarded a new five-year contract with Lavendon Group plc.

Lavendon, (which trades as Nationwide Platforms in the UK), is a market leader in the rental of specialist powered mobile elevated work platforms to a range of sectors including construction, telecommunications, facilities management and arboreal.

The contract, which starts in January 2015, sees Wincanton take sole responsibility for collecting products from all 26 of Lavendon's UK storage facilities, from Aberdeen to Liskeard, before delivering them to customers across the country.

This move to replace its in-house logistics operations with Wincanton is integral to Lavendon's growth strategy, designed to improve customer service and create efficiencies in its supply chain.

To fulfil the contract Wincanton will use a dedicated fleet of 124 vehicles making over 200,000 deliveries a year, with staff working on Lavendon's existing in-house operations transferring across to Wincanton.

Eric Born, Wincanton's CEO, said:

"We are delighted to have secured Lavendon as a new client and believe our cross sector logistics expertise, reputation for maximising customers' assets, and the deployment of proven technology systems, will all help Lavendon achieve its ambitious growth plans.

"We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues in January and implementing our market-leading solutions geared to optimising processes and delivering excellent customer service."

Jeremy Fish, managing director of Nationwide Platforms, said

"At Nationwide Platforms we are continually striving to improve the service we provide to customers. The new partnership with Wincanton is going to help us achieve this.

"The switch-over is expected to be virtually un-noticed by customers, who will see little difference in the people and vehicles they are used to. Going forwards, however, we expect to see real improvements in on-time deliveries, reduced collection lead times and increased communication.

"The partnership will also offer further career and personal development opportunities for our drivers and transport staff."
