Wincanton, the largest British logistics provider, has signed a new 5-year contract with leading cycling and car accessories retailer Halfords, which will extend the relationship between the two companies to 8 years.

Wincanton will remain the sole supplier of transport services to Halfords in the UK, and the deal represents the continuation of a successful association between the two companies.

Under the terms of the deal Wincanton will be responsible for transporting products relating to car maintenance, car enhancement, car servicing, cycling and travel from Halfords' warehouses to its stores. The contract will see Wincanton deploy 55 vehicles delivering to 476 stores nationwide, totalling approximately 15,000 loads per year.

Operations will be run out of the Halfords distribution centre in Coventry and Redditch, with 130 Wincanton colleagues working in support of the contract.

Huw Jenkins, Director of General Merchandise at Wincanton, said:

'We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with Halfords.

'Having worked with the company for the last 3 years, we were keen to demonstrate Wincanton's role as a trusted partner with the knowledge and expertise to operate an efficient and cost-effective transport service on behalf of Halfords. We look forward to continuing our work with the company, and delivering an industry leading service for the long term.'

Tracey Barley-Wild, Head of Logistics at Halfords, said:

'For a company such as ours operating across all parts of the UK, having a trusted partner that is able to deliver a professional and reliable transport operation is business critical.

'Wincanton has demonstrated over the past 3 years that it is more than up to the task, and we are pleased to be continuing our association with the company.'

Founded in 1892, Halfords is listed on the London Stock Exchange, and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.
