Morrisons is expecting BBQ essentials to fly off the shelves this weekend as the UK basks in some early spring sunshine.

The retailer is predicting it will make and sell 1.4 million fresh British beef burgers to be sizzled on barbecues being held up and down the country- a 30 per cent increase on last week.

Sales of sausages made at Morrisons own manufacturing sites are expected to exceed one million this week - the equivalent of 350 tonnes of sausages making their way onto British BBQs.

And Morrisons' bakeries have increased production and will bake 1.6 million burger buns and double the amount of hot dog buns baked this week.

Morrisons also expects to see a 650 per cent increase in sales of BBQ fuel and a 450 per cent increase in sales of BBQ tongs and tools.

Paul Robinson Morrisons Meat Specialist said: "This is the first warm and sunny spell of the year and we fully expect the country to get out into the garden and make the most of it."
