About the Presenter
Steven J. Schweon RN, MPH, MSN, CIC, HEM, FSHEA first became interested with infectious diseases as an Army medic serving in South Korea. Prior to graduating nursing school in 1981, he worked as an orderly in two LTC facilities. He has 14 years experience as both a critical care nurse (CCRN) and behavioral health nurse (RN,C). He has been a seasoned infection preventionist since 1995, board certification (CIC) since 1997, with acute/long term care, behavioral health, and consulting clinical experiences. He has served on several national infection prevention committees.

Steve belongs to both the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA). He serves on the American Journal of Infection Control and Epidemiology editorial board and has presented at nationwide conferences. He has authored/co-authored 19 articles in peer-reviewed publications and lectured at/presented 16 posters at national conferences. Specialized areas of interest include surveillance, outbreak investigation, infection prevention programs, hand hygiene, antibiotic resistance, environmental hygiene, vaccination, and the special needs of Long Term Care and Behavioral Health facilities.
