Woolworths : Nationwide country of origin labelling education program launched at Woolworths

Monday 15May,2017: Woolworths customers have the chance to be better informed on new country of origin labelling, with a widescale product sampling program launched across 350 stores nationwide.
The Federal Government's country of origin labelling initiative came into effect on 1 July 2016, with affected food products required to include the mandatory labelling by July next year.
Woolworths was the first supermarket to begin using the new labels on their own brand products in October last year, with a range of Woolworths Own Brand products already carrying the new labelling.
Woolworths Head of Sustainability, Adrian Cullen, said; 'We know our customers love to buy Australian products. The new labelling system makes it easier for our customers to better locate Australian made products and understand what percentage of the ingredients are from Australia.
'For the next five weeks we are hosting in-store country of origin labelling display booths across the country. We encourage our customers to visit the booths, sample the Woolworths Own Brand product on display and learn more about the new labelling scheme.'
Senator Arthur Sinodinos AO, Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science said; 'Three weeks ago we commenced the country of origin labelling for food advertising campaign. The in-store demonstrations are an extension of the advertising activity and an excellent opportunity for Australian consumers to hear more about the labels. We appreciate Woolworths' support for this initiative.'
The country of origin labelling demonstrations are being run in partnership with the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science and will be in-store at selected Woolworths locations nationwide from now until mid-June.
