It is a rare event where industry peers across the energy, mining, chemicals, infrastructure and utility sectors come together to discuss changes in their industry and common challenges such as safety, diversity and the impact of technology.

WorleyParsons facilitated the 16th Annual Industry Leadership Forum over two days in Brisbane in October. With 211 delegates from industry attending with 35 speakers, many current 'hot' topics were covered related to this year's theme of 'Embracing Change: Enhancing Value Through Thinking Differently'.

The buzz from conversations between speakers was electric as delegates made the most of every opportunity to share and learn from each other. With attendees and speakers ranging from early career professionals to senior managers, the participation of younger professionals was noted as refreshing and contributed significantly to the success of the event. Likewise, the lack of sales, marketing or media set the Forum apart as a solely professional development and educational experience.

A driving factor of the Forum's success is the steering committee which consists of senior executives from 20 of WorleyParsons cross-industry customers. At the first meeting of the committee each year, members bring their current top three issues to the table. These issues are consolidated into five or six main topics and workshopped into a theme. A request for papers is issued in line with this theme and the program is built from submissions that address the industry's foremost challenges, as listed on official website for the event: www.iln.worleyparsons.com.

Feedback as described by attendees:

'There are consistent messages, both in terms of challenges and successes across industries. There is a lot we can learn from each other. The value of diversity beyond just a 'a good thing to do''.

'The world is changing - we need to be more agile, we need strong leadership, we need to collaborate more with clients, engineers and construction.'

'Best professional experience of my career.'

'Made me think and challenge some of my preconceived ideas.'

With 100% of this year's attendees prepared to recommend this event to others, the Industry Leadership Forum will continue in 2018 with an emphasis on further regional involvement.
