INDIA - Prema Sagar, Principal and Founder of Genesis Burson-Marsteller, has been recognized in a special issue of news magazine, IMPACT that honors the leadership and work of 50 female professionals in the media, advertising and marketing industries in India. Being the only public relations professional to make it to the "50 Most Influential Women" list, Prema is ranked 18 on the list this year, up from 19 last year for her pioneering work in India's public relations industry.

As the only Public Relations professional on the list Prema founded Genesis Public Relations in November 1992 when the public relations industry was at a nascent stage in India. Over the last two decades, the company, which was acquired by Burson-Marsteller in 2005-06, has mirrored the journey of India's public relations and public affairs landscape. She has led Genesis Burson-Marsteller through this entire formative period, with the backdrop of a rapidly changing business environment.

Today, Genesis Burson-Marsteller is a leading public relations and public affairs consultancy that delivers integrated communication services to some of the best global and Indian companies. Prema is an active member of Burson-Marsteller's Asia-Pacific Senior Executive Leadership Team, which focuses on setting strategy for growth in the region and business priorities in specific areas, including investments in business development, client development, talent recruitment and acquisitions.

Prema is also the Founder-President of the Public Relations Consultants Association of India, an organization that encourages the sharing of best practices in the industry, and the President and a Founding Member of the Public Affairs Forum of India, which was created to bring the same level of collaboration and knowledge sharing in the public affairs realm. In 2001, Prema established the Genesis Foundation, a trust created to provide access to world-class medical care for abandoned and underprivileged children facing life-threatening ailments.

As an entrepreneur, Prema is a Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), the world's largest not-for-profit organisation promoting entrepreneurship. She is on the Advisory Council of Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) India and a trustee of the Zariya Foundation, a Swiss non-profit that is spreading Mother Teresa's message and is also raising funds to finance a motion picture made on her life and work. Prema is also a member of the Board of Advisors of SaveLIFE Foundation, an NGO focused on bystander care for emergency victims.
