Atkins secures a place on £5 billion framework for the Highways Agency - 7 November 2014

The Highways Agency has appointed Atkins as one of its key suppliers on the Collaborative Delivery Framework (CDF).

Worth £5 billion, the CDF will deliver important upgrades to motorways and trunk roads across England over the next four years.

Under the framework, Atkins will provide design and engineering expertise for upcoming programmes including major improvements. Amongst the projects in the CDF pipeline are the A14 trunk road between Cambridge and Huntingdon and a programme of Smart Motorway schemes.

Jason Pavey, CDF bid director for Atkins' Highways & Transportation business said: "As the Agency makes the transition to a government owned company and triples investment in our roads, there is a real need for the sector to work more effectively. The CDF will see the Agency and its supply chain working more closely to deliver projects in less time and for less cost.

"We are delighted to have been appointed to this framework and look forward to working in partnership with the Agency to continue to provide world-class infrastructure for motorists and the travelling public."

Lesley Waud, Atkins' CDF programme director said: "Atkins has a strong track record of working successfully in formal partnerships from Severn Trent Water to the Stafford Area Improvements Programme in our rail business. This commitment to working collaboratively means we are well placed to lead the step-change in delivery that the Agency is seeking.

"Work has already begun mobilising our team and preparing to tender the first contracts with the Agency on this framework such as the £1.4bn A14 upgrade. We will establish all of our projects with a one team ethos and will implement behaviours such as 'best person for the job' to work in a truly collaborative way with our competitors and the contractors. This is a very exciting time to be part of the highways industry."
