Atkins' Jo Moffatt honoured in the 2014 Power Part Time List - 5 December 2014

Jo Moffatt, chief engineer in Atkins' Energy business, has been included in the 2014 Power Part Time List: a roll call of the top 50 UK executives who work flexibly or part time.

The 2014 Power Part Time List has been put together by Timewise, a leading social business that is building a visible market for good quality flexible jobs in the UK, following a nationwide search.  This is the second year in a row that an Atkins employee has been included in the list, following Sarah Long, principal engineer in Atkins' Aerospace business, in 2013.

Jo said: "I'm honoured to be included in the 2014 Power Part Time List. I have spent 12 of the past 18 years at Atkins working part time, and it has given me the opportunity to progress to a senior level in an interesting and challenging professional job whilst enjoying time with my young family."

As a chartered civil engineer and operations manager in Atkins' oil and gas business, based in Epsom, Jo is responsible for leading a multidiscipline design and consultancy team of 70 engineers, specialising in offshore fixed structures, computational fluid dynamics, safety engineering, dynamic process simulation, and reliability and asset management. Some of the signature projects Jo has worked on include the London 2012 Olympic Games, M25 Widening J12-15, Solan Subsea Oil Storage Tank and DONG Energy Offshore Substation Platforms.

"We work with colleagues all over the world to deliver projects in the North Sea, Middle East, Gulf of Mexico and Australia, using industry leading technology to help maximise safety and production for operators. We are truly global in the way we work; some of our current projects are located in Kazakhstan, Japan, Angola and Canada, to mention a few. My team are specialists at the cutting edge of the industry, developing areas such as Floating LNG and cost reduction in offshore structures. There is a new challenge every day- it's extremely dynamic and rewarding."

Dr Martin Grant, chief executive officer of Atkins' Energy business, commented: "We are so proud that Jo has been included in this high profile list of successful professionals who work part time. Jo has been a role model for people across Atkins who want to work flexibly, and as one of the first people in the business to work in a flexible way, she has encouraged and mentored others to look at the options open to them.

"At Atkins, flexibility is not a one size fits all approach, different people will have different requirements throughout their lives and we try really hard to be mindful of this - it's a powerful tool that can be used to help both individuals and organisations grow and become stronger."

Timewise conducted both the nationwide call to action for nominations in June, calling upon the public to nominate inspirational individuals they knew, who work part time / flexibly at senior levels. Founder Karen Mattison led the judging panel which included:

•    Steve Varley, managing partner for the UK and Ireland of EY
•    Karen Blackett OBE, the CEO of MediaCom
•    Andy Saunders, Deputy Editor of Management Today magazine
•    Katie Bickerstaffe, CEO of Dixon's Retail plc in the UK and Ireland
•    Lynn Rattigan, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of EY

After hearing from hundreds of people, the judges compiled a list of 50 deemed to be the most outstanding. The list is not ranked or numbered in any way.

Timewise co-founder and judge Karen Mattison MBE, who led the initiative from the start says: "Jo and the other 49 individuals represent how work in the UK is changing. In sharing their stories they help to change the conversation, from what is 'not possible' when you work flexibly - to what is. The Power Part Time Listers are paving the way for future generations. We hope that they inspire others to open up about their patterns of work."
