• Railway systems and interfaces

The joint venture brings together the engineering expertise of Atkins, the programme management capability of CH2M and the international high speed experience from SENER.

The teams will work alongside HS2 Ltd in their offices based in Birmingham and London, as well as on sites along the route. The commission is expected to commence in April 2016.

Philip Hoare, managing director, Transportation UK and Europe, said: 'The development of high speed rail in the UK will help lay the groundwork for long-term, sustainable economic growth both regionally and nationally and we are naturally delighted to part of the team that will make this happen. Along with our JV partners, CH2M and SENER we have the management, technical engineering and international expertise to support the delivery of a high speed railway fit for the future.

'As the engineering delivery partner for HS2 Phase 1, we will work collaboratively with HS2 Ltd and the wider supply chain to help deliver a high speed railway that Great Britain can be proud of. I'm passionate about creating opportunities for people to join our sector and working with Birmingham University and the National College for High Speed Rail, we will help train, up-skill and inspire a new generation of rail professionals.'

Phase 1 of the HS2 project involves the construction of a high speed railway link covering a distance of 230km from London to Birmingham.
