We're pleased to announce that WSP in the USA has been named "Best Commissioning Provider" in the United States Green Building Council's ("USGBC") inaugural Best of Buildings Awards.

The Best of Building Awards celebrates the year's best products, projects, organizations and individuals making an impact in green building. Nominees and winners were selected exclusively by the members of USGBC, a vibrant and diverse community of nearly 13,000 of the world's leading organizations invested in sustainability.  A full list of winners is available on the USGBC website. 

WSP's commissioning practice is an outgrowth of the firm's expertise in engineering construction, high performance building, and construction management.  WSP has dedicated commissioning professionals nationwide, who provide thorough "debugging" of building systems, from design through installation, to ensure efficient operations on an ongoing basis. 

Some of the projects on which the commissioning team has worked include MGM Mirage CityCenter in Las Vegas, including five separate LEED® certifications; NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, LEED Platinum; multiple projects for North Shore LIJ Health System in New Hyde Park, New York, all of which must obtain a minimum of LEED Silver; Haliburton's North Belt and Oak Park campuses in Houston, Texas, with multiple projects certified or seeking LEED Gold; and the Albert Sherman Center at University of Massachusetts Medical School, LEED Gold, to name just a few.

"We have always viewed commissioning as a critical component of the engineering lifecycle, and integrate it, wherever possible, into building projects of all types," notes Steve Burrows, WSP's executive vice president and USA director of buildings.  "It's an honour for our longstanding commitment to commissioning to be recognized by the USGBC."

Senior vice president Paul Meyer, who heads WSP's national commissioning practice, echoes this sentiment.  "The award means a lot to us," he says.  "It tells us that our efforts to provide our clients with the most advanced and effective commissioning techniques have met with success.
