From October 20 to 24, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK; head office: Tokyo; president: Yasumi Kudo) and Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd. (YLK; head office: Tokyo; president: Hiromitsu Kuramoto) jointly conducted their 2014 Global NYK/YLK Week, a training program targeting NYK and YLK national staff from offices around the world. Twenty-six overseas staff members - 13 from NYK and 13 from YLK- were nominated from the Group's global business bases to attend the program along with two Japanese staff from each company's headquarters in Tokyo.

The program is held to foster a sense of solidarity among the participants by promoting mutual understanding across national, company, and divisional boundaries. NYK began conducting this program in 2002, and since 2012 it has been jointly organized by NYK and YLK, aiming to further strengthen linkages and business networks within the Group.

This year's program was held under the theme of "NYK Group branding." Lectures were given on the NYK Group's new medium-term management plan and the need for a branded business to be predicated upon the basic principles of law and compliance. The participants actively exchanged opinions while engaging in a variety of group work designed to deepen understanding of the business and initiatives of the NYK Group.

The participants were divided into four groups, and each group made a presentation on the program theme to the board members. Comments afterward underscored the importance of active participation in the Group's business management.

Moreover, to promote better understanding of Japanese culture, the participants visited cultural heritages and took part in Zen meditation. It is expected that all participants will take their experiences from the five-day seminar back home to share with their colleagues.

The NYK Group will continue to foster national staff members working at the Group's global business bases to promote NYK's continuing growth as a global company.
