More than 1,700 runners of all ages covered almost 15,000 km for a good cause at the 6th Triglav Run. They were supported by a large number of top Slovenian athletes, who cheered them on from the sidelines, waited for them at the end or accompanied them on the run through the heart of the Brdo pri Kranju estate. Money for better neonatal care was handed over at the charitable running event to the Ultrasound Society for the 'Slojenčki' project and to the Trbovlje and Brežice maternity hospitals.

The 6 traditional Triglav Run offered sports lovers of all generations a unique running experience in the stunning natural surroundings of the Brdo estate. Ski jumper Lea Einfalt posted the fastest time (0:39:19) in the women's 10 km run, while Mitja Krevs was the fastest man at 0:33:00. Maja Matić won the women's 21 km run, which this year passed all measurements and officially earned the title of half-marathon, in 1:33:44, with Dejan Zorman conquering the longest distance at this year's event for the men in 1:17:26. Runners of all ages also took part in the business relay (3 x 3.4 km), the family run (3.4 km) and the 'Kuža Pazi' children's run (350 m and 700 m).

Top athletes promoting recreation in natural surroundings

The Triglav Run provided individuals, families and colleagues the opportunity to enjoy active leisure time in natural surroundings and encouraged them to exercise alongside a large number of top sportsmen and women. 'The atmosphere was fun and my fellow runners were clearly having a great time. I did too,' said ski jumper Cene Prevc, who took part in the 10 km run, adding: 'The route itself is a real feast for the eyes, at least for someone like me, who loves looking at the countryside.'

Cene was joined at the end by brother Peter, cross-country skiers, including Vesna Fabjan, snowboarder Žan Košir, professional skater Timotej Lampe Ignjić, triathlete Miro Kregar, ultramarathon runner Nataša Robnik, a group of biathletes headed by Teja Gregorin and Klemen Bauer, paralympic skier Anja Drev, markswoman Veselka Pevec and swimmer Darko Đurić. Alongside these top athletes, popular musician Samuel Lucas made sure that all participants were kept fully entertained.

Better neonatal care

Zavarovalnica Triglav dedicated the run to better neonatal care and handed over a donation of EUR 25,000 at the end. 'The Triglav Run is a unique event with two aims: in cooperation with top athletes, to encourage people of all generations to enjoy a healthier lifestyle and take exercise outside in natural surroundings, and to raise money for health institutions,' explained Tadej Čoroli, member of the Triglav management board.

The gynaecology and maternity unit at Trbovlje General Hospital will use the donation of EUR 2,500 to purchase 12 beds for newborns, while the gynaecology and maternity unit at Brežice General Hospital will use a donation of the same amount to purchase two mobile blood pressure and oxygenation monitors for the delivery room. The Ultrasound Society will direct its donation of EUR 20,000 in its entirety to the 'Slojenčki' project. 'Over 180,000 children have been born at Ljubljana Maternity Hospital in its 30 years of operation, with 6,000 new arrivals expected every year. We would like to provide them and their parents with the best possible conditions at those most special moments: the birth of a child. For that reason we wish to renew the equipment in 11 delivery rooms. We would like to replace the lighting - in particular, we need operating theatre lights and heated changing/reanimation tables for newborns immediately after birth and premature or sick newborns requiring first aid. Most of our operating theatre lights and changing/reanimation tables have reached the end of their life and are 30 years old. We are therefore grateful for the donation, which will be used to renew some of the equipment in the delivery rooms,' said Dr Nataša Tul Mandić, head of Ljubljana Maternity Hospital.
