Recently, China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association rated Zijin's green and sustainable bioleaching technology for low-grade copper mines and its industrial application as world's leading level. At the same time, Zijin's study and application of comprehensive recycling technology for improving efficiency of gold and copper extraction from low-grade gold and copper mines was also evaluated as world's advanced level.

The evaluation results were based on the document of Evaluation Methods of Science and Technology (Trial) issued by Ministry of Science and Technology. Mr. Qiu Dingfan, the specialist in metallurgy and the academician of CAE, said that these two projects achieved not only a high degree of innovation results, but also some advanced technical and economic indexes. The maturity of these technologies is praised during the assessment. Mr. Qiu Dingfan and his fellows believed technology innovation can promote industrial technology progress and enhance enterprise's market competitiveness, and bring considerable economic and social benefits afterwards.

As the largest-scale low-grade copper mine adopting bioleaching technology in China, Zijinshan Gold and Copper Mine is one of the most successful cases in bioleaching technology application. Compared with foreign similar mines with advanced bioleaching technology, Zijin, under the condition of ore grade of copper lower to 0.67 and sulphide is 3 times higher than copper in the ore, has realized the results of higher leaching rate of copper, shorter cycle of leaching, and lower processing cost. With this technology, Zijin can control bacteria functionally in an open environment, and dissolve target ore selectively, and also it can unite various factors during purification and leaching, thereby attaining the goal of resources recycling.
