The dining room features a handsome built-in hutch and French doors leading to a screened-in side porch.

When Evan and Rozella Davis were house shopping, their two favorite architectural styles were craftsman and Spanish. Both styles are abundant in South Pasadena, but it was the living and dining rooms of the craftsman home they eventually bought that sealed the deal.

An incredible built-in hutch in the dining room played a part, as did French doors that open onto a screened-in porch. And 'we loved the wainscoting so much that we added it in the master bath and in another bathroom,' Evan said.

They were drawn to craftsman architecture for the way its form follows its function. 'It's very basic, but with beautiful materials and workmanship. They weren't taking any shortcuts with these houses, and it showed,' he said.

Built in 1914, the bungalow is located on a tree-lined street, measures 1,660 square feet, and boasts a large front porch and the Davis' beloved screened-in side porch. Their home is on the market for $1.248 million with listing agent Sarah Halpin of Markey & Associates.

A built-in oak bench in the foyer presents a handsome look that's found throughout the home, from the doors to window trim to wainscoting. Rich hardwood floors create an aesthetic tie between the dining room and the living room, which boasts a period brick fireplace and a picture window.

The 3-bedroom, 3-bath home features a master suite with a view of the landscaped backyard, a remodeled bathroom and a walk-in closet.
