9 April 2013, Shenzhen, China- ZTE Corporation ("ZTE") (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices has announced that it signed a four-year IPTV network construction contract with Telkom Indonesia (Telkom). .
According to the contract, ZTE will construct, operate, and maintain a low-bit-rate IPTV network for Telkom from 2013 to 2016. ZTE will provide Telkom with IPTV system equipment including high definition (HD), standard definition (SD) and low bit rate devices, as well as STB. On the systems side, ZTE will operate, maintain, and host equipment, and provide end-to-end network optimization.
Telkom is the largest fixed-line operator in Indonesia, with 95 per cent market share. It is the holding company of Telkomsel, the largest mobile operator in Indonesia.
ZTE's IPTV construction model helps guarantee and develop IPTV multi-screen business at low bandwidth. FEC fast error correction and ARQ automatic retransmission request are used in packet loss compensation for live broadcast and video on-demand. Occasionally, a user's network is unstable and thus the video does not play smoothly. Forward Error Correction (FEC) solves this problem. Low-bit-rate SD and HD technologies allow users to play video at low bandwidth. It also limits number allocation range issues.
"Our cooperation with Telkom Indonesia in IPTV provides valuable experiences for developing video businesses in a complicated network environment," said ZTE Multimedia and VAS Product Line General Manager Fang Hui. "It also assists with Telkom's profitability."
ZTE is expanding in the global IPTV market. Its IPTV system is commercially available in Asia, the United States, and Europe. As of the end of Q4 2012, ZTE had deployed 49 IPTV commercial offices, and had 12 million subscribers and capacity of over 20 million. According to the Global IPTV Market Research Report by the world-renowned consulting firm Multimedia Research Group in 2012, ZTE's IPTV middleware had 11 per cent of global market share, second in the world.
