The two brands Tridonic with 84 and Zumtobel with 38 newly registered inventions
Dornbirn, Österreich - The Austrian Patent Office recently published its Annual Report 2017. The Zumtobel Group, an international lighting group and a leading supplier of innovative lighting solutions, is one of the most innovative companies in Austria with a total of 122 newly registered inventions under its Tridonic and Zumtobel brands.
Tridonic and Zumtobel as innovation drivers
With 84 registered patents and utility models at the Austrian Patent Office in 2017, Tridonic is one of the three most innovative companies in the country with the second place in the ranking of the largest inventors. After 2015 and 2016, Tridonic secured a place among the top three for the third time in succession. Tridonic currently holds over 2,500 patents and patent registrations - in addition to intellectual property rights at the Austrian Patent Office, this also includes a large number of European and US patents.
With 38 registered patents and utility models, Zumtobel Lighting ranks fifth among the top applicants for 2017. In total, Zumtobel Lighting holds over 1,800 patents and patent registrations. With its Tridonic and Zumtobel brands, the Zumtobel Group thus also supports the high patent density of the province of Vorarlberg, where the company's headquarters are located: Measured in terms of population, Vorarlberg applied for the highest number of patents per inhabitant in a federal province comparison in 2017.
Patents affirm innovation leadership
The aim of patent applications is to maintain market leadership in the future and to protect the company's innovation. 'As a global player in the lighting industry, we live from the innovative ideas of our brands. The current figures from the Patent Office therefore allow us to look at the future with great optimism: With 122 newly registered inventions last year, we are once again demonstrating our innovation leadership,' says Klaus Vamberszky, EVP Group Technology of the Zumtobel Group.
With a total of 12,000 patents per year, Austria ranks sixth in the EU-wide patent comparison and eleventh worldwide. In the previous year, 2,900 inventions were registered and 1,450 patents and utility models were granted throughout Austria.
