Dornbirn, Austria - With a length of 43 kilometer it will be Singapore's third longest underground transportation line: work on the Thomson-East Coast Line is set to commence in October 2017. Thorn, a brand of Zumtobel Group, has won the tender process to secure the major lighting contract for the new underground line. The 10-million-Euro project will see the internationally renowned lighting solutions provider deliver a range of different products to illuminate tunnels and back-of-house areas.
Designed to expand the rail network for greater connectivity and improved resilience, the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) will be Singapore's sixth Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line. This completely underground and driverless line will be Singapore's third longest MRT line. The new line will span 43 kilometers with 31 stations. When completed, TEL will connect commuters living in the eastern parts of Singapore who are not currently served by the rail network.
For this project, Thorn will be providing luminaries of the highest standards. Based on the stringent criteria required by the client, over 100.000 Thorn LED luminaires will be delivered for the TEL tunnels and maintenance areas, including AreaPak Pro, Chalice, CiviTEQ, Formula LED, GTLED, HiPak and PopPack LED.

Work is set to commence in October 2017 with the line due to open in stages from 2019. When fully operational it is initially expected to serve approximately 500,000 commuters daily, rising to one million commuters in the future.
