The life of Barry Diller could be the best Hollywood script. In fact, Barry Diller is a self-made man; he started at the bottom of the social scale working in the mailroom of casting agencies in Hollywood. He was not addict to studies so gave up University of California after a few weeks in order to launch himself in the commerce online.
Excellent negotiator, Barry Diller is nicknamed Diller Killer because he manages to get all what he wants.
At 31 years old, he became president of Paramount Studios that he managed to save from bankruptcy reducing budgets. When Rupert Murdoch bought Twentieth Century Fox Corporation he asked Barry Diller to help him in the launch of the television part.
Both men worked together until 1992. Barry Diller has revolutionized the TV programs before deciding it was time for him to have his own business. He started in teleshopping with QVC, a big success. He decided to sell the company in 1994.
Later, Barry Diller managed to take the control of USA Interactive. After Ticketmaster, Expedia and Hotels.com, Barry Diller bought the search engine Ask and the dating website Match.com. All these companies belong to InterActiveCorp since 2003.
"The American public tunes in every night hoping to see two people screwing. Obviously, we can't give them that but let's always keep it in mind."
"The world is changing. Networks without a specific branding strategy will be killed. I envision a world of highly niched services and tightly run companies without room for all the overhead the established networks carry."
"This is a world in which reasons are made up because reality is too painful."
