David Thomson is the son of Kenneth Thomson, second boss of Fleet Thomson and president of Thomson Corporation until his death in 2002. Thomson Corporation, founded in 1950, is one of the biggest active information’s companies specialized in financial services, health care, law, sciences, technology research, taxation and accounting.

David Thomson studied at the elementary and secondary school of Upper Canada College (UCC) in Toronto, before joining Selwyn, College where he will graduate Bachelor of Arts (BA) in history in 1978.

David Thomson worked for different companies controlled by his family. For example, he was director of La Baie (chain of fashion stores) and President of Zellers (department store).

He founded a real estate firm called Osmington Incorporated, owned and managed outside the Thomson empire.

According to a plan developed decades ago by the founder of Thomson Corporation, Roy Thomson, when Kenneth Thomson died (June 2006), the control of the family fortune was given to David.

On May 15, 2007 Thomson Corporation signed an agreement with Reuters to assembly both company, the deal was valued at $ 17.2 billion. On April 2008, the new company was formed, called Thomson Reuters.
The new chief of Thomson Reuters is Tom Glocer, the former chief of Reuters.

Thanks to this transaction, the number one of financial information was born.

David Thomson is the only one among the biggest fortunes who didn’t found himself his fortune. In fact he has inherited it from his father who was in 2006 the 9th richest man in the world. In 2011, David Thomson was ranked 17th richest man in the world. Thomson Group is owned at 70% by his family.
