Brazil Fipe Sao Paulo CPI Rises 0.66% In Jan; Up 0.61% In Dec
02/02/2012 | 04:00am Consumer inflation in Brazil's largest city, Sao Paulo, picked up in January, the Fipe research foundation said Thursday.
Fipe, which is affiliated with the University of Sao Paulo, said the city's consumer price index rose 0.66% in January, compared with an increase of 0.61% in December.
The reading was in line with market forecasts for the CPI to rise between 0.51% and 0.77%.
Transport costs increased 0.31% in the period, versus a rise of 0.23% in the previous four weeks.
In addition, housing costs rose 0.31% in January, accelerating from a 0.17% rise in the previous month.
Education costs climbed 6.42% in the period, accelerating from a rise of 0.04% in December.
On the other hand, food prices, which have the heaviest weighting in the index, rose 0.51% in January, slowing from an increase of 1.44% in December.
