The City of Lancaster is one of eleven grantees nation-wide selected for funding for a Partners for Places matching grant, led by the Funders' Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities in partnership with the Urban Sustainability Directors Network.
The $30,000 grant will enable the City of Lancaster to lead an equity-focused, community-wide planning effort resulting in a comprehensive climate action and resilience plan for the city. In other words, the plan will identify actions and a timeline for the city to dramatically reduce its contribution to climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, it will identify strategies that will help the community be more resilient to the impacts of climate change, including flooding, extreme heat, utility interruption, and accommodating climate-displaced people. A steering committee of diverse local stakeholders will be empowered to help lead the planning process. An initial implementation project will also be funded. The Lancaster County Community Foundation, The Steinman Foundation, and the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA) are providing funding for the project for a total anticipated project cost of $60,000.
The other ten grantees through the Partners for Places program are Bend, OR; Cary, NC; Cincinnati, OH; Grand Rapids, MI; Las Cruces, NM; Los Angeles, CA; New Orleans, LA; Philadelphia, PA, Salt Lake City, UT; and St. Louis, MO.
