Emulex OCe11000 UCNAs Named 2011 Network Computing Network Infrastructure Product of the Year
04/12/2011 | 09:10am
Emulex
Corporation (NYSE:ELX) is pleased to announce that the readers of Network
Computing magazine have voted its newest OneConnect?
OCe11000 family of Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) as
the Network Infrastructure Product of the Year. Voted for by the readers
of the magazine, the awards recognize the products, service and
companies which have most impressed them throughout the last year.
Emulex was presented with the award at The Network Computing Awards
Ceremony on April 7, 2011. Last year, the Emulex OneConnect technology
was also honored
in the same category, in addition to Product of the Year.
Emulex's single-chip high-performance OneConnect UCNAs enable customers
to efficiently consolidate their network and storage infrastructures.
The new OCe11000 family of UCNAs was selected as network infrastructure
product of the year based on improvements and benefits such as:
-
Improved VM Performance with SR-IOV Support: SR-IOV, which
allows PCIe devices to appear as multiple physical devices, can be
used to optimize I/O performance for virtualized servers by allocating
unique physical functions to VMs and offloading I/O functions from the
hypervisor to host-based IOCs.
-
Lower OPEX with Power Savings: Increased integration and
reductions in external chip components provide a 20% improvement in
power efficiency.
-
More VMs per CPU with Emulex vEngine? Technology: Emulex
vEngine provides full hardware protocol offload support for
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), iSCSI and
Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) which removes the overhead of
network and storage traffic from the CPU.
-
Next Generation Virtual Networking: The OCe11000 family
supports emerging VEPA (Virtual Ethernet Port Aggregator) and VEB
(Virtual Ethernet Bridge) standards. With these capabilities, the
adapter functions as a Layer 2 hardware switch to offload
network-based management of VM traffic that is internal or external to
the virtualization platform.
-
Optimized Networking Performance: Using Class 2 switch
capabilities to classify and sort incoming traffic, OneConnect
adapters support virtual queue technologies for optimum networking
performance.
"Emulex is honored to be recognized again this year by Network
Computing for our OneConnect OCe11000 UCNAs," said Shaun Walsh, vice
president of marketing, Emulex. "ESG recently announced
that two of the top IT priorities for 2011 are increased used of server
virtualization and managing data growth, and the OCe11000 UCNAs help IT
managers tackle these priorities and maximize data center consolidation
with next-generation virtual I/O capabilities, improved power usage and
simplified management."
The Network Computing Awards, which took place on 7th April in London,
have been running for 5 years and are particularly meaningful as they
are voted for by the readers of Network Computing magazine in
December and January. Approximately 6,000 individuals cast votes for the
2011 awards, making this one of the most significant surveys relating to
networking technology in the UK.
