Comment to the press corps by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, on the Adoption of a Resolution by the United Nations Security Council concerning North Korea's nuclear test and other activities

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

I highly commend the swift adoption of a remarkably strict sanctions resolution against North Korea with unanimous approval. I think that going forward, the international community will be called on to implement this resolution firmly. It is imperative that we impart pressure on North Korea at an unprecedented level of intensity and bring changes to North Korea's policies. In that regard, I believe that through this resolution, the international community has succeeded in working in cooperation and solidarity to indicate its intention clearly. I intend for Japan also to continue to demonstrate leadership in this area in order to bring changes to North Korea's policies through close cooperation with various countries.
