BRUSSELS--IMF chief Christine Lagarde said she would work "very constructively" to reach a deal on Greece at a meeting with euro zone finance ministers Tuesday.
"We're going to work very constructively to see if we can find a solution for Greece," she said on her way into the talks in Brussels. "That's our goal, our purpose and our mission."
Ms. Lagarde openly disagreed with Jean-Claude Juncker, head of the group of euro zone finance ministers, at a press conference last week, insisting that Greece's debt burden must be trimmed to 120% of gross domestic product by 2020.
Some euro zone ministers favor giving Greece an extra two years to meet that goal in a move that would ease some of the pressure on Greece's official creditors to find additional assistance for Greece at this stage.
