Food Dialogues? Event to Facilitate Discussion on GMO, Organics and Local Food Issues
WHAT: The Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB), in cooperation with the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance® (USFRA®) will host The Food Dialogues: Iowa, an event designed to answer questions on how food is grown and raised.
This event will bring together several experts on food issues, including farmers, for a panel discussion on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), organically grown food, and the definition of local foods.
WHEN: Tuesday, November 19, 2013 - 7:00 - 8:30 p.m
WHERE: Scheman Auditorium, ISU campus, Ames, Iowa
2110 University Blvd - Parking is available at no cost on the north side of the Scheman Building.
WHO: Sponsored by the ICGA and the ICPB as well as the USFRA.
WHY: The Food Dialogues events were designed by USFRA to bring together farmers, ranchers, industry experts, scientists, media and consumers for dynamic discussions on some of today's most pressing topics related to food and food production. To watch videos from past events, or to learn more about USFRA, visit www.fooddialogues.com. Follow USFRA on Twitter @USFRA using #FoodD or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/usfarmersandranchers. Iowa Corn's social channels will also be
covering the event on Twitter @iowa_corn and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/IowaCorn.
Iowa Corn Promotion Board
The ICPB is composed of 12 corn grower members, one from each of the nine cropreporting districts and three officers. The board members are elected by their peers and direct funds are collected through the Iowa corn checkoff program. The checkoff was
established by grower referendum in 1977 and has been a model for other programs in 18 states. The checkoff program collects 1 cent per bushel and is refundable. The ICPB and the growers it represents are actively working to create an economic climate
in which the Iowa corn industry will flourish through research, market development and education.
Iowa Corn Growers Association
The ICGA brings growers together to proactively manage issues that advance the Iowa corn industry. The ICGA's lobbying and legislative efforts are financed through membership dollars. They target everyday issues that directly affect the corn growers livelihood. The association and its elected board of directors from each crop-reporting district, represent nearly 7,500 members and work to build relationships with business and industry. Through all these efforts, the ICGA is advancing the Iowa corn industry by providing corn growers with a voice in Iowa, Washington, D.C., and around the world.
We are the farmers and ranchers of America. U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance (USFRA) consists of more than 80 farmer - and rancher-led organizations and agricultural partners representing virtually all aspects of agriculture, working to engage in dialogue with consumers who have questions about how today's food is grown and raised. USFRA is committed to continuous improvement and supporting U.S. farmers and ranchers efforts to increase confidence and trust in today's agriculture.
