METI - Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of : METI State Minister Akaba Had a Meeting with Turkmenistan Energy Minister Artykov

On November 12, 2013, Mr. Kazuyoshi Akaba, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Myrat Artykov, Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan. In connection with the modernization plan of thermal power plants in Turkmenistan, State Minister Akaba explained to Minister Artykov the superiority of Japanese enterprises' thermal power plants generation technology, from the viewpoint of supporting export of infrastructures and industrial plants. Both ministers share the view that such enterprises' proactive efforts in the field of infrastructures and industrial plants in Turkmenistan will contribute to the further development of the Japan-Turkmenistan economic relationship.

On November 12, 2013, State Minister Akaba had a meeting with Minister Artykov. Both ministers exchanged views on the modernization plan of power generation facilities based on "the new Concept of Electric Power Industry Development of Turkmenistan for 2013-2020", which was approved by the cabinet of the Turkmenistan government in April 2013, as well as on the potential of bilateral cooperation projects through the utilization of Japanese enterprises' advanced technology in Turkmenistan.

In particular, State Minister Akaba mentioned the introduction of highly efficient and qualified, environmentally friendly Japan made gas turbines to a large scale thermal power plants project in Mary, Turkmenistan, in which Japanese enterprises have been interested in participating, as well as the introduction of highly-efficient gas engine units with excellent mobility to stand-alone thermal power plants in the country, which Japanese enterprises have recommended to Turkmenistan side. State Minister Akaba, also conveyed to Minister Artykov Japan's superiority in such technology in a meticulous manner, and explained that METI focuses on supporting Japanese enterprises in expanding their business overseas, not only in light of Japan's economic growth strategy, but also on enhancing bilateral economic relationships through economic development of countries to which Japan introduced its advanced technology. State Minister Akaba told Minister Artykov that METI will support these projects.

In response, Minister Artykov highly appraised Japanese enterprises' technical capabilities and stated his expectation toward such enterprises' contribution to the efforts in the field of energy, in particular, to the modernization of thermal power plants. Both ministers shared the view that such enterprises' proactive efforts in the field of infrastructures and plant in Turkmenistan will contribute to the further development of the Japan-Turkmenistan economic relationship.
