Entertainment tech innovator will headline content-focused program featuring new Breakthrough of the Year Awards and enhanced conference programming

Innovative television host, journalist and author Maria Menounos will serve as the Entertainment Matters Ambassador for the 2014 International CES®, announced the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®) today. Sponsored by Variety, Entertainment Matters is a content-focused CES program developed for Hollywood's film, television and digital communities, which includes the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) as the associate sponsor. The 2014 CES is the world's gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies and is scheduled for January 7-10, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Entertainment Matters Ambassador illuminates CES' focus on bridging the entertainment and technology industries. Menounos will passionately advocate for uniting entertainment thought leaders, who are at the forefront of digital content creation, with other executives who are developing the devices that will land on every consumer's wish list.

"As an innovative entrepreneur, filmmaker, author, journalist and television host, Maria Menounos is the perfect ambassador for the 2014 CES Entertainment Matters program," said Karen Chupka, senior vice president, events and conferences, CEA. "Menounos is a tech innovator in the entertainment industry, and her work embodies what the Entertainment Matters program is all about. Her successes through television, film and the internet are a true testament to the importance of merging content and technology to create the next-generation of entertainment."

Menounos is the host of "Extra" at Universal Studios Hollywood where she covers leading entertainment events, celebrity interviews, red carpets and movie premieres. She also hosts "Conversations with Maria Menounos", a digital talk series featuring one-on-one in depth interviews with Hollywood A-listers, which debuted #1 on iTunes. Menounos is founder and CEO of the AfterBuzz TV Network, an online broadcast network dedicated to producing post-game wrap-up shows for favorite TV series. With over 200 Hosts on roster, AfterBuzz TV is the largest pure online broadcast network, producing over 50 hours of programming per week to a weekly audience of over 20 million from more than 75 countries.

Menounos has appeared in numerous films and television shows, and has produced several independent films. She is the first and only person in Hollywood to report for network news and star in a movie and, as a reporter for Nightly News, remains the only reporter to interview the entire Obama family - heralded by ABC News as a defining moment in the historic election. She is also the New York Times' bestselling author of "The EveryGirl's Guide to Life." Her next book, "The EveryGirl's Guide to Diet and Fitness" is slated to be published in April 2014.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of CES as the 2014 Entertainment Matters Ambassador," said Menounos. "I know from my online broadcast network, AfterBuzz TV, just how much technology is transforming the entertainment landscape, and this year's Entertainment Matters program will highlight advances across the industry. I look forward to joining the entertainment community at CES to experience and celebrate these exciting new innovations."

The CES Entertainment Matters program, which attracted more than 32,000 content and entertainment professionals at the 2013 CES, will feature exhibits, keynotes, panels and events critical to the entertainment community, including the 2014 IAWTV Awards Gala and Variety's Entertainment Summit at CES.

New for 2014, CEA will partner with Penske Media Corporation (PMC), a leading digital media publishing company, to bring PMC's Breakthrough of the Year Awards to CES. The Breakthrough of the Year Awards will recognize extraordinary achievements in a number of categories including media, entertainment and technology. Attendees and presenters for this red carpet event will include prominent business leaders, activists, executives and celebrities. The awards will take place at the Las Vegas Hotel (LVH) Theater on Thursday, January 9, 2014.

The Entertainment Matters program will also feature new content and entertainment-focused conference sessions. CEA will produce "Ultra HD Content: What Will We Watch in 2014 and Beyond?" on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. "Seeing is Believing - 3D, 4K and UHD," will take place on Thursday, January 9, 2014 and will be produced by the International 3D and Advanced Imaging Society, an official CES conference partner. Dozens of other Entertainment Matters related sessions can be found at this CES link.

The 2014 CES will feature 20 market-specific TechZones highlighting innovation across 15 different product categories including wearable technology, 3D printing, and motion-sensing devices. For more information on the 2014 International CES, visit CESweb.org.
