Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of C : Price of Farm Produce Fell Mostly and Price of Material for Production Continued to Fall

The price of major farm produce monitored by MOFCOM fell mostly
last week (June 25- July 1) compared with that of the previous
week, and price of material for production was falling for
eleven consecutive weeks.
The wholesale price of 18 vegetables was falling for two
consecutive weeks, down by 2.5% compared with that of the
previous week and 28.6% compared with that at the beginning of
May. Among that, wax gourd, eggplant and cabbage dropped the
most with the declining rates of 11.4%, 6.3% and 6.1%
respectively compared with that of the previous week; the price
of garlic began to fall, with a drop of 0.5%. The retail price
of egg was falling for two consecutive weeks, down by 0.4%
compared with that of the previous week and down by 2.5%, 2.4%
and 0.8% respectively in Tianjin, Beijing and Chongqing. As the
end of off-fish season in Poyang Lake, Dongting Lake, the
Yangtze River and Hanjiang River Basin, market supply was on
the increase and the wholesale prices of 8 aquatic products
dropped 0.2% compared with that of the previous week, of which
small cutlass fish, carp and crucian carp were down by 1.5%,
1.4% and 0.9% respectively. The wholesale price of meat was
widely on the increase, of which pork was up by 0.7% compared
with that of the previous week, slightly up for two consecutive
weeks, but still down by 18% year on year, and in Haikou,
Nanning and Dalian the price of pork was up to over 20 yuan per
kilogram with an increase of 8.3%, 5% and 2.7% respectively
compared with that of the previous week; the price of beef,
mutton and chicken was up by 0.7%, 0.5% and 0.1% respectively.
The wholesale prices of meat fluctuated slightly, of which pork
fell after rising for two consecutive weeks, down by 0.7%
compared with that of the previous week and 21.2% compared with
that of the same period of last year and down by3.4%, 0.3% and
0.3% in Shanghai, Chongqing and Beijing. The prices of beef,
lamb and chicken rose 0.8%, 0.4% and 0.2%. The retail price of
grain and cooking oil maintained a steady growth, of which
soybean oil and rice remained unchanged compared with that of
the previous week; of flower and rapeseed oil were up by 0.2%
and 0.1% respectively; peanut oil continued to rise for three
consecutive months, up by 0.4% compared with that of the
previous week and 4.8% compared with that at the end of March.
Of major material for production, the prices of nonferrous
metal, material for agricultural production, energy, building
materials, steel and raw material for light industry were all
down, the price of rubber, chemical products and mineral
products rose slightly. The price of nonferrous metal was down
by 0.9%, of which zin#1, copper#1, aluminum A00 and nickel#1
were down by 1.5%
