Foreign Minister H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim met with H.E. Mr. Wataru Takeshita, President of Japan-Maldives Friendship League today.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister thanked Japan-Maldives Friendship League members for their unwavering support to advance the friendly relations between the two countries. Minister Asim and the League's President Takeshita noted the increased people-to-people contact, including the growth of trade and investment between two countries over the years.

Minister Asim noted with appreciation the role played by the JOCV volunteers and thanked Government of Japan for the assistance provided through JICA over the years. H.E. Mr. Wataru Takeshita was accompanied by Mr. Yoshitaka Shindo, Secretary General; Ms. Yuko Obuchi, General Secretary and three additional members Mr. Yasuhide Nakayama, Mr. Hiroshi Mitsubayashi and Mr. Taimei Yamaguchi, Member of Japan-Maldives Friendship League.

Foreign Minister Dr. Asim was accompanied by H.E. Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Bilateral, and H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Uvais, Ambassador-designate of Maldives to Japan, Mr. Ahmed Fazeel, Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Mr. Adam Hamid, First Secretary and Mr. Mohamed Thahseen, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Maldives in Japan.
