Eindhoven, Netherlands and Paris, France, November 15,
2011 - NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI), the global
leader in the Identification market, announced today that
it has received two SESAMES Awards for its NFC solutions.
At its 16th annual award ceremony held at CARTES &
IDentification 2011, an independent jury recognized
NXP's outstanding achievements in NFC with SESAMES
Awards for the PN65 in the category Best Mobility
Application and for the Android NFC open source software
stack in the category Best Software. Rewarding
technological innovation, the SESAMES Awards have become
a well-respected benchmark in the smart card and
identification industry.
Best Mobility Application: PN65 Secure NFC Module
A complete NFC solution, the PN65 includes NXP's
trusted PN544
NFC controller, an embedded Secure Element based on
NXP's SmartMX™ technology, a JavaCard operating
system, and fully qualified NFC host software. As the
industry's first secure multi-application NFC system
solution, the PN65 enables device manufacturers and
application developers to bring secure applications such
as Google Wallet to market. In addition, the PN65 ensures
best-in-class interoperability with existing contactless
reader infrastructures, which are also based on advanced
NXP contactless technology. The PN65 is implemented in
the Nexus S™ and Galaxy Nexus™ devices.
Best Software: NFC Host Software Stack for Android
Providing the open source NFC host software stack for
Android has marked a major milestone in the development
of the NFC ecosystem. With the integration of the NFC
stack in Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), NXP instantly enabled
mobile phone manufacturers and applications developers to
design and launch NFC-enabled smartphones and
applications. By offering the NFC software as an open
source stack, NXP has helped to set the de-facto standard
for NFC integration in mobile devices and proven its
leading role in NFC - a move now acknowledged by the ID
and security industry.
"At NXP, we strive to offer the latest, most
advanced NFC solutions to our customers and to the mobile
industry-at-large, and we are truly committed to the
ongoing development of the NFC ecosystem," explains
Ruediger Stroh, executive vice president and general
manager, Identification business, NXP Semiconductors.
"NFC is a game-changing technology that is having a
major impact - enabling secure and convenient mobile
payment as we have seen with the launch of Google Wallet,
while also opening a world of opportunity across multiple
applications. We're pleased to receive two SESAMES
Awards this year acknowledging the advances we've
made in building both the technology and ecosystem around
NFC, and recognizing its future potential."
In addition to the two award-winning NFC solutions, NXP
was also nominated for the SESAMES Award in the category
Trusted Internet / Authentication with its innovative
on-card gesture recognition. With two winners and one
finalist across ten categories, NXP was the most
successful company in the SESAMES Awards 2011.
NXP at CARTES & IDentification 2011
The awards were presented on the eve of CARTES &
IDentification, where NXP is showcasing brand-new demos
highlighting the key role that ID technologies play,
whether at work or at home, in transport or at leisure.
The CARTES show in Paris is the largest show worldwide
bringing together all the major players in digital
security, payment, contactless and smart technologies.
Offering complete end-to-end solutions that ensure
interoperability between cards, readers and mobile
devices, NXP uses these technology capabilities to
develop new markets for secure solutions in response to
new global trends such as cloud computing, mobility,
machine-to-machine authentication or smart grids. NXP is
leveraging this end-to-end expertise to also drive the
future of multi-application ID, where the same card or
device is used to securely access a variety of services
for increased user convenience. At CARTES, NXP will be
showcasing new solutions in core markets such as banking,
eGovernment and Automatic Fare Collection (AFC), as well
as innovative applications in emerging areas such as
mobile payments, gaming and smart metering.
Visitors to CARTES can experience NXP's
multi-application ID solutions at booth 4J 035, Hall 4.
