SDLP MLA for West Belfast and Minister for the Environment,
Alex Attwood has expressed his concern at the loss of 760
jobs from engineering plant FG Wilson and has contacted the
company to organise a meeting. He said:
Fri 14th September
"I share with everyone my shock and deep concern at this
development. I have been in contact with FG Wilson to
request a meeting at the earliest possible opportunity in
order to assess the situation for workers and the company.
Two of the four FG Wilson's plants in the North are located
in west Belfast and I am particularly worried about the
effect job losses will have on people living in the area.
FG Wilson need to give firm commitments to people here
given the support the company has received from the
government of the North. This issue cannot be reduced to
one of profit margin. There are bigger issues and values
involved than that.
At this time everybody sends support and solidarity to
families who feel at risk and who must feel vulnerable and
deeply concerned at this difficult time."
