Fuel Company of ROSATOM TVEL and CJSC Haykakan Atomayin Electrakayan (Armenian NPP) signed contracts for Russian nuclear fuel supplies. This contract will provide for not only standard fuel charge for regular outage but also form a reserve of fuel assemblies for two years.

The contractual documents were signed during a visit of a delegation of Fuel Company of ROSATOM TVEL to Armenia. The delegation was led by President of JSC TVEL Natalia Nikipelova.

'Fuel Company TVEL offered the Armenian partners the improvement of energy security and advantageous commercial terms of nuclear fuel supply confirming the high level of our multi-year partnership and mutual trust. The NPP plays the key role in provision electricity to the country; therefore, it is important to secure its guaranteed and uninterruptible operation. In 2016, we made the joint decision to create a nuclear fuel reserve at Armenian NPP,' President of JSC TVEL Natalia Nikipelova noted.

Nuclear fuel supplies to Armenian NPP, which is accounted for up to 40% of electricity in the country, are an important area of the Russian-Armenian energy cooperation. Russia-made fuel has been supplied to Unit 2 of installed capacity of 440 MW (nuclear reactor is VVER-440) since 1995. Not a single violation related to nuclear fuel operation has been recorded over this time.
